Powerscourt has won the financial & corporate comms brief, with Hanover taking the public affairs account, following a competitive pitch involving several agencies.

Bell Pottinger previously oversaw financial & corporate comms and public affairs in an integrated brief with the FTSE 250-listed banking group. The agency was hired in summer 2016 following a challenging period that saw CYBG announce it would make 150 senior staff redundant following a 60 per cent year-on-year slump in bottom-line profits.

Speaking to PRWeek in September, prior to Bell Pottinger being placed in administration, CYBG said it ended its relationship with that agency in July.

Anthony Thompson, head of corporate affairs at CYBG, said: "We've made great progress since our IPO and flotation as a newly independent bank - though there is a big job to do to build our reputation and tell the CYBG story to a number of audiences across the UK and Powerscourt/Hanover's integrated offering combining City, creative media and political communications was a critical factor in our final decision [to appoint them]."

Earlier this month PRWeek reported that CYBG had hired Travelzoo's Louise Hodges to the new role of head of consumer comms in a new-look communications department.

CYBG has nearly three million customers in the UK and operates 343 branches. It operates under the Clydesdale Bank, Yorkshire Bank and the digital B brand.

CYBG is one of several former Bell Pottinger accounts that has moved or is in the process of moving elsewhere since the agency was placed in administration in September.

Teneo Blue Rubicon recently won a former Bell Pottinger brief with facilities management and construction giant Carillion.
